This is an important step. Another issue is that laws banning/criminalizing “conversion therapy” would not apply to churches or religious organizations, only mental health practitioners. So, religious organizations could still offer “conversion therapy”-like services under the auspices of religious practice. This gets into the whole gay rights vs. religious freedom issue (which, to me, isn’t even a real issue, as the concept of “freedom” should not include the right to oppress another individual or group).
