To add to the conversation, you’re essentially observing that the gay/LGBTQ community has replicated the same binaries/power dynamics as the majority culture. Why, for example, are the only options for identification top/bottom, masc/femme, etc.? We should recognize that there are more ways to do and be gender and sexuality than just either/or in which one half of that dichotomy is always privileged over the other. Gender and sexuality are, and can be, multidimensional spaces of possibility, and it’s time the politics of the LGBTQ community reflect that.
